All the first-time fears
We’ve all been there. Here are the answers to the questions everyone asks, and the ones people are too shy to ask.
Before we leave, mechanics check your bike and bags at the store, and experienced riders ride with the group and help along the way.
Bring snacks for the ride. There’s always a grocery store or gas station near the day’s finish point, and Trek takes care of light snacks and beer by the campfire.
It’s all waiting for you in the gear list.
To the gear list →Everyone sleeps together at one campsite. Bring a sleeping bag, a mattress and a tent or tarp. And earplugs: a must!
To the gear pages →About 50 km a day, at your own pace, and nobody rushes. You don’t need a tough route to enjoy bikepacking.
No problem: roll your sleeping bag inside a yoga mat and strap it to the handlebars. You can also rent bags at Trek stores at a reduced price.

It’s all free.How it started
A group of friends who love bikepacking wanted to turn it into a real community: social, without ego, with room for everyone who wants to contribute. And we wanted to show that you don’t need brutal routes to enjoy it.
Together with Trek Israel, who saw it as a mission rather than a business, the first Bikepacking for Beginners left from Trek Ashdod about three years ago.
Listen: the podcast interview
In this podcast episode we talked about the project: how it all started and why it matters to us.
Listen on Spotify →How we grew
From 35 brave souls to 170 riders. And at every event, dozens of riders for whom it’s the first time.
The community
There’s no such thing as a stupid question, and no rider too senior.
Veterans give tips, lend gear and ride with the new riders. Around the campfire you can’t tell who’s a veteran and who’s there for the first time.
Who counts as a "veteran"?
Not necessarily someone riding for years. Sometimes it’s someone who caught the bug a year ago and now leads first-timers.
There’s room for anyone who wants to contribute
Checking routes, baking cakes, bringing something for the evening.
- A bike in working order
- Sleeping bag
- Mattress
- Tent or tarp
- A warm layer for the evening
- Lights
- Water and snacks
- Earplugs
If you have a lot of fear and a little desire to try, weaken the first and let us boost the second.
