Roy Levi’s map

This map was built by Roy Levi. He started it in 2022 after seeing how much backpackers, trail hikers and campers needed it, and it has been growing and improving ever since.

You can filter campsites by category and colour to find the one that suits you.

Note: the map also marks spots that aren’t official overnight campsites but where people commonly sleep. Sleeping there is entirely at your own responsibility.

Free and low-cost camping in Israel

Israel has a network of overnight campsites run by the Nature and Parks Authority: free "sign" campsites, first come first served, with no facilities, and paid ones you book online. There are also KKL forest campsites. In nature reserves you may only sleep inside a designated campsite. All the sleeping rules →

How to choose a campsite

  • Close to a water point.
  • Sheltered from the wind.
  • Away from roads.
  • Not in a wadi bed in winter.
  • One you can reach before dark.

FAQ

Do I need to book a campsite?

Not the free INPA campsites: first come, first served. Paid INPA campsites are advance booking only.

Is there water at the campsite?

Free campsites have no infrastructure, so bring your own water. Paid campsites usually have toilets, and sometimes showers.

Can I light a campfire?

Only in the marked spots, with wood you brought, and only when there’s no fire ban.

What if the campsite is full?

Have a backup: another campsite nearby, a hostel in town or a trail angel. At holidays and weekends, arrive before sunset.
